Hello Everybody!
It's been exactly one year since we talked about the digitization project happening at the Romeo Community Archives.
We've been working hard to computerize every physical issue of The Romeo Observer since last year. Now, we bring you some updates.
- Right now, we have 71 years covered, for we've digitized every issue of the newspaper up until 1937!
- We have made every edition up until 1930 searchable. This means that you can search these ones by a key word or a phrase using the computers located in the archives.
- The collection also contains issues of The Romeo Press (1937-1939). It later got absorbed by The Romeo Observer.
- We have officially digitized all available editions of the Romeo Investigator, Romeo Argus, and Romeo Hydrant!
In other words, we have 79 more years to go before newspaper is fully computerized.
Even though we don't have every issue scanned like what we promised last year, we guarantee that all of them will be digitized by the end of 2024.
The newspapers still won't be available to the public right away. We plan on keeping the editions in-house for one year, but patrons can still make an appointment to view them by calling (586) 690-4890 or emailing rca@romeodistrictlibrary.
