Easter is right around the corner. I hope the kids had a lot of fun celebrating it before spring break. What did they do? Put on rabbit ears? Pet a bunny? Participate in an Easter Bunny Coloring Contest? That last one is exactly what happened in this picture.
The April 9, 1980 issue of The Romeo Observer covered what the children did to celebrate spring in the article, "Springtime...When Being Young Is Such Great Fun!" One of the items covered was the Annual Easter Bunny Coloring Contest, which was sponsored by the Downtown Romeo Merchants. All of the winners are seen in this picture, but only one has been identified, and we'll get to who in a bit.
Apparently, the judges had a very difficult time picking the winners at each age level because there were so many fine enteries. At the end of the day, they did pick a grand winner, and that was 6-year-old Heidi Grenkowitz. She's in the middle of the photo with the bow in her hair. The Easter Bunnies seen in that same picture handed her prize at the Ice Cream Saloon, which is currently the RJD Gallery.
The article assures that the other winners had a fine time too. It states, "Who could help it when spending an afternoon with the Easter Bunny's helpers, pop corn, jelly beans, and the like!"
Happy Easter to all!
