From the Time Capsule--May 11, 1927 edition of The Romeo Observer |
By the time this edition of the newspaper was published, the community had voted favorably for a bond proposal of $150,000 for an addition to be built to the original 1885 (what was then the Romeo High School) building. The above photo and caption were scanned from the May 11, 1927, newspaper that was included in the time capsule recovered from the demolition site of the old Romeo Middle School. Clearly, the children wanted to do their part to raise money as well. The photograph was "taken by Gates", (that name should be familiar to you) and is a snapshot of how strongly Romeo residents were in favor of modernizing and improving the schools for better education and drawing in new residents to the area.
