I know that it's six months away from the Romeo Peach Festival, but lately I've been in the mood to eat peaches, especially after seeing this photo of 1955 Peach Queen Nancy Kovack giving one to Detroit Tigers manager Stanley Raymond "Bucky" Harris at Tiger Stadium.
The Peach Queen is an ambassador of Romeo, and as our article "Peach Queens and/or Miss Romeo?" states, "her duties include representing local peach harvests and bringing attention to the orchards and the Peach Festival."
One of the ways the Peach Queens accomplished this was by sharing a basket of peaches with well-known local figures like Bucky Harris and government officials.
To learn more about Nancy Kovack, other Peach Queens, and the Peach Festival in general, you can locate the Romeo Peach Festival Collection here and/or contact the Romeo Community Archives at rca@romemodistrictlibrary.org to see said collection in person.
