Many genealogists use Census records to find where their ancestors lived during a certain period of time. But what if you're looking for a time period that hasn't been released yet? The 1950 U.S. Census records will not be released to the public until 2022. So what to do? Well, if you have an idea of the area or city in which your ancestor lived, try to find City Directories for that time period.
Here at the RCArchives, we have directories from the years 1951 until 1995. Towns include Romeo, Armada, and Washington Twp. What is great about the 1950s directories is that not only are residents listed alphabetically but also by streets! You can find former owners of your home, easily find addresses, neighbors, and former businesses in town. The listings also include the occupation of the residents, which can lead to further clues about your ancestor.
Click HERE for searchable pdf Directories. Check back often, as directories are scanned, they will be added to the Archives Catalog.
