The old Romeo Middle School, 297 Prospect St., has had its windows boarded up for some time as workers have been preparing for demolition. Driving by today, a bulldozer was removing bricks from the outside walls. It likely won't be long now until there is an empty lot.
1885 Romeo High School
297 Prospect school timeline:
- 1885 September 4th, the Romeo High School building was dedicated.
- 1928 March 28th, an addition to the original building was dedicated.
- 1932 June 22nd, the rock with the bronze tablet, donated by the Romeo Monday Club, was dedicated.
- 1966 May, the original 1885 building was torn down, and another addition was built.
- 1958 October 26th, the new Romeo High School building located on 32 Mile was dedicated.
- 1958 through the end of the 1996-1997 school year was named Romeo Jr. High and taught eighth and ninth grades.
- The 1997-1998 school year was the first as the Romeo Middle School, with sixth, seventh, and eighth grades.
- 2020-2021 demolition.
