"10..., 9..., 8..."  No lift-off for this machine, or at least not anything above skimming the surface of the water. Pictured here is a boat that "was ordered off the highway... when a highway inspector found that the driver was not carrying a permit to transport the 12-foot wide racing craft."  The boat was impounded until the owner obtained the correct permits. Apparently, it caught the attention of the local reporter and it was published in the May 5, 1956 edition of The Romeo Observer

It certainly does look like a rocket, and I'm guessing it was significantly fast on the water. Do you have any additional information about this craft? Send an email to rca@romeodistrictlibrary.org or leave a comment if you do.

Beating the heat on this July 2nd in 1970, swimmers are enjoying a refreshing dip in cool waters. Silhouetted against the blazing sun at Stony Creek Metropark, the waters look choppy but add to the sparkle and contrast of a bright summer day. It's a reminder of how fleeting good weather can be in Michigan--so get out there and enjoy it while you can!
